Will taking testosterone if you’re trans have an impact on preexisting heart conditions?
I’m 37 and trans and recently made the decision that I would like to start hormone replacement therapy.
In 2023 I was diagnosed with very mild pulmonary hypertension and very mild PSVT. Both have been controlled and haven’t required any medications or surgery. I do have OCD though and I have also had medications impact my PSVT and cause elevated heart rate which threw me into an episode.
I scheduled an appointment with a gender affirming care doctor and she prescribed .3ml of testosterone subcutaneously once weekly. But I forgot to mention to her about my heart stuff. (I did include it on the intake paperwork though) I have not taken it yet because I saw an article about how testosterone affects your heart and I read up on all the available studies which give VERY conflicting information.
I just moved to a new state and haven’t established care with a cardiologist here but that’s obviously my next step and I will probably try and talk with them before starting the T.
I was just hoping someone with actual medical experience could weigh in on this for me.
