AITAH For not refusing to talk to another parent at my child's school?
Let me start off with my child has been bullied since the 3rd grade, he just recently passed to 8th. So my kid was friends with this kid, up until he had enough of the kids horriboe behavior. He would tell my son to push other kids, pull girls hair, and he would name call and cuss at my son. Over xmas break my son threw his controller to his game, to where I ask what that was about. He tells me he is tired of his friends making fun of him, cussing, talking back at teachers, hurting other kids, and talking to him horribly and getting his other "friends" to do the same. He had enough and he didn't want to deal with it anymore. My daughter told him that is not a friends and sounded more like a bully. So to prevent more controls from being thrown I blocked him on the gaming consoles. We forgot my son used to use my husband's account, and he used to use his dad's. So while running a safety inspection on his acct a couple days later we find messages from the father's acct bad mouthing my son. We block that acct as well, and block both acct on my husband's and daughter's to prevent further harm. He returns to school, and where he is asked why he was blocked. My son replied "I don't want to be friends anymore. Friends don't treat or talk to each other like you do to me. I want to be a good kid and I rather play by myself. You're not my friend anymore."
Since then this kid has pushed, hit, name called, spat, threw spit wads in my son's hair, and thrown food at my son. That is on top of being called poor, made fun of, ECT. Typical bully behavior. My son punched him once to get him to stop. He was pulled out of school for a year and returned this past year.
Again, he began to bully my son, his friends, and even just aquaintences he saw talking to my son in the halls. Everytime things like this happen my son would tell him to shut up, be quiet to leave him alone, or if it was towards other people he called him out on him being jealous of himhaving made new friends and to leave them alone because they had nothing to do with anything. Mind you I reported it every time I found out about something happening. Over the past school year he name called my son, push his friend (girl) into pushes, to where my son helped his friend out and they walked away and he told him to leave her alone. Because it was done to a female my son reported it, because he didn't want her getting hurt again. Same with other friends of his. When I found out about certain bullying I reported it and spoke to the principal as well. I even asked if we could have a sit down with the parents.
Well, I caught the parent outside the school where I approached the vehicle and asked if she had a minute to talk. I told her all we want is for her son to ignore my son. He can pretend my son does not exist. I told her I would tell my son to do the same. Her reply "yea whatever." I lost it and told her if she didn't talk to her son and get him to stop she would be the one getting her (|) 👊🤜 as well. That I was just trying to get it to stop before my son flew off the hinge because he is very tired and has kept his composure thus far.
Last week of school my son is walking home and the kid called him gay (used the f word though.) Well, my son lost it, 👊 several times, threw him to thr ground, got on top and kept hitting him in the face. His mother went down to the school and made her son out to be a victim, saying my son hit him for nothing. They then call me down to the school, where I tell them I will not be taking my son home because he was provoked, and I had warned them several times that my son was tired of the bullying. He was tired of his friends being caught in the crossfire, and most of tired that the school was doing nothing to stop it. Each time that kid got away with it. I had also written down dates, times, and names of who I spoke to to report bullying, and what happened And what was said. That same day I had a meeting with a teacher that saw I was not myself. I told her about everything my son has endured.
During a band field trip (where I chaperoned) I find out said teacher began "Operation save (son's name.)" She informed all his teachers, where old teachers over heard, secretaries, coaches, ECT. Close to a total of 35 teachers spoke on my son's behalf, saying that was out of character for my son, that isn't like him, he is their best student, respects, and always gives a helping hand. Not only that a few said they saw said kid bullying mine and stopped him several times, and reminded the principal that they made a report as well. Decision, my son was saved. Unfortunately, said kid did not receive a punishment.
Well, it has happened twice now the mother stops to try and talk about the "situation". Mind you I had already told the principal that my son and I were done talking or reporting anything, and he will be defending himself from now on. So when she stopped I told her the same. That it would be best if she left my property, because she was on private property. And it would be in her son's best interest to leave my son alone and pretend neither one exists.
Well, I was cutting my lawn when she stopped again begging to talk. I told her "have your lawyer give me a call. That is the only way I will ever listen to a word you have to say. I tried to talk to you parent to parent. I didn't approach you maliciously in any way, shape, or form. In fact I begged you yo get your son to stop did I not?! So, no I will not listen to you, I will not talk to you, and there are no excuses I will take for your son bullying mine for years. So put your vehicle in drive and f*€k off. Next time you stop here I will be filing a police report. Just get your son to keep his mouth shut and stop bullying my son." To which I turned around, put my headphones back in, and began cutting my grass again.
I honestly would like to find a solution, however I don't see one with her son. My son hates to fight, as do I. It is not within our characters to have confrontations, or even hit other people. My husband says make war with them, I just want to ignore it, but because I know my son doesn't want to hit anyone again I feel like I may be the AH.
And for anyone wondering, what about next year? Well, supposedly the principals are going to try to come up with a solution to keep them apart, and out of each other's paths. I already told them I don't want to see them in the same class, and they better seat him on the opposite side of the cafeteria. Altho, a teacher also let me know that there was talk about getting him out of the school. (Which come to think of it, maybe that is why the parent all of a sudden wants to talk.)
