Lowering resolution below native?

Hello gamers,

I came to ask a simple question, does running a game below the native resolution (1440p native to 1080p in my case) have an effect on how the game runs? Does it increase/decease CPU or GPU usage in some cases? And I does lowering my resolution make games run at better frame rates?
