Apologies in advance for the downer post.

This happened last Saturday — I was riding on the freeway when out of nowhere, the rear tire started sliding out. It felt like the front and back of the bike suddenly weren’t aligned at all 🙃

I immediately pulled over and had it towed to a mechanic I trust. I was hoping it was just something like twisted forks or maybe a bent rim. Something fixable.

He was out until today, and as we were talking through what happened, he suddenly stops mid-sentence, looks at the bike, and just goes, “Oh, you’re f'd.” Then sends me the photos. (I’ve attached them above.)

I just recently got new tires and fairings — dropped around $1,000 on that — and I haven’t crashed this bike. The only “drop” was a harmless one in a parking lot when I forgot to put the kickstand down. Definitely not enough to cause this kind of damage.

I bought it used about a year ago, and now I’m wondering — could this be damage from a crash before I owned it? Did I get scammed? Not that it matters now, I doubt there’s anything I can do about it either way :(

Any advice on whether insurance might cover this? I do have full coverage. I’ve already spent $400 just towing it to the shop. I’d like to offload it without burning any more money if possible.

Also — I get that people might think I’m lying about not crashing it. I get it. But I truly have no reason to lie here, especially since I’m anonymous.

Now, for the sob story part.

The moment I saw the photo of the damage, I just broke down. Haven’t been able to stop crying since. I can’t afford a new bike right now. And with it being the middle of summer? It just a really shitty feeling.

This was one of the few things that genuinely brought me joy in a pretty bleak life. And now it’s gone.
