Am I missing something or is this the best option?
I’m considering a supracervical hysterectomy because I get debilitating period cramps every month and I want permanent birth control.
I am unable to take Estrogen because it interacts with medication I take, and taking progesterone makes me have extremely heavy periods and feel insane.
I was considering a bisalp just for birth control, but now I’m considering removing the uterus instead and retaining my ovaries, fallopian tubes and cervix.
I guess I always considered a hysterectomy a very radical step to take, but it does solve my problems within the medical constrains I’m working with.
Is there anything I’m missing here? Any other options?
FYI IUDs are not an option because I can’t use the hormonal version and the copper option can cause heavier periods. I’ve also heard too many horror stories.
My birth control options are limited to cycle tracking and condoms, neither of which I love.
And for the first day of my period each month I am absolutely non-functional. Can’t work or do anything but lay in bed on pain killers. But it’s only the first day.
Is that worth the surgery and recovery? I’m 42 but there’s no telling for sure how many more years I have of this.
