[RESOURCE] I got tired of fast fashion (and being broke), so I made a list of genuinely affordable sustainable brands.
Hey everyone, Like a lot of you, I've been trying to move away from fast fashion giants like Shein and H&M. But every time I looked up "ethical" or "sustainable" brands, I'd get sticker shock. It felt like you had to be rich to afford to care about the planet. So, I went down a rabbit hole to find brands that are actually affordable and doing good things. My main rule was that you should be able to buy real clothes—not just a pair of socks—for under $50. Hope this list helps someone else! TL;DR: You can ditch fast fashion without destroying your wallet. This list has brands where you can get quality, ethical basics for under $50. The best ones are Pact, Quince, and Boody. Also, buying secondhand is still #1! The List of Actually Affordable & Sustainable Brands
- Pact
- Why they're great: This is my top pick for basics. Everything is made from GOTS certified organic cotton, in Fair Trade factories. Their stuff is ridiculously soft.
- What you can get for under $50:
- T-shirts and tanks ($25-$40)
- Super comfy underwear & bralettes ($15-$35)
- Their leggings are often on sale for under $50.
- Quince
- Why they're great: Their whole model is "factory-direct," so they cut out the middleman to keep prices low. Great quality for the price. They use materials like organic cotton and even linen.
- What you can get for under $50:
- Linen pants and organic cotton trousers (seriously, around $40)
- Nice tops and even some lightweight sweaters ($30-$50)
- Decent activewear and swimwear.
- Boody
- Why they're great: They specialize in clothes made from bamboo viscose. If you've never tried it, it's silky, soft, and super breathable. The bamboo is organically grown and ethically processed.
- What you can get for under $50:
- All their underwear and socks are well under $25.
- Great layering pieces like tanks and camis ($20-$30).
- Their signature soft t-shirts and bodysuits are usually under $40.
- Kotn
- Why they're great: They use beautiful Egyptian cotton and are a certified B Corp, meaning they meet high ethical standards. They work directly with farming families and even help fund local schools.
- What you can get for under $50:
- PRO-TIP: Head straight to their sale section. Their regular prices can be a bit higher, but you can almost always find their amazing quality t-shirts and ribbed tanks for $30-$45 on sale.
- Yes Friends
- Why they're great: A UK-based brand created specifically to be hyper-affordable and transparent. They pay living wages and show you the exact cost breakdown of their clothes.
- What you can get for under $50:
- Their classic organic t-shirts are ridiculously cheap (like, under $20 USD, even after shipping sometimes). They're a great way to stock up. Don't Forget the OG Sustainable Options:
- Thrift / Buy Secondhand: Honestly, this is still the most sustainable and affordable way to shop. Platforms like ThredUp, Poshmark, Depop, or just your local thrift store are goldmines.
- Wear what you own! The most sustainable outfit is the one already in your closet. So, that's my list! What are your favorite affordable sustainable brands that I missed? Would love to add more to my personal list.
