Why do people wash their rice?

Genuine question.

The answer i typically get is that it's to get rid of excess starch, but i don't see any in my rice, even when i make fried rice i don't see a difference between washing and not washing.

I guess when boiling more white stuff gathers on top of the water, I would guess that's the starch, but it's just a little bit and it goes down the sink when straining afterwards.

Just a question, I see everywhere people saying "wash your rice 3 times!" And stuff like that and i dont get it.
