Ashanti is too private for a reality show
After watching the first season of Nelly and Ashanti: We Belong Together I have concluded that Ashanti is just too private about her personal life for this to properly work or be entertaining.
Nelly helped the show in that he has done reality TV before (Nellyville) and is overall more free than Ashanti in how he expresses himself, which has helped the show have comedic moments. Ashanti, on the other hand, has been quite guarded about her relationships and personal life for most of her career and it’s clear she wants her family and friends to stick to the script when they appear on camera. This makes Ashanti’s scenes seem rigid, flat and performative even for a reality show where some scripted scenes are par for the course.
I’m keen to see if anyone else agrees or has a different perspective.
