My commission lapsed a few years - journal question?

My commission lapsed a few years ago, and decided to retake the test recently. Passed!

Leaned in class that I unknowingly kept my journal when my commission last expired (covid..). I still need to turn that into the Sec. of State's office and purchase a new journal, yes? Can't just pick up where I left off?
