HELPPP im looking for a book I read when I was like 9-10. it was a 2000's urban fiction book with a black girl or boy main character 😭

UNSOLVED

YALLLLL I’m trynna find a standalone (maybe) urban YA novel I read years ago (probably published in the 2000s). Here’s what I remember about it:

The main character is a Black teenage girl, around 16–17 years old.

Her boyfriend, who might be named Stanley, stutters and is teased by classmates — there’s a scene early in the book where he has to recite something in class and kids mock his stuttering.

The girl has a best friend who turns out to be fake/not loyal. (i thinkk??)

The setting includes an apartment in the hood, and the cover shows the girl and her boyfriend walking down a school hallway holding hands, with lockers and the girl’s best friend also on the cover. (i cnt rmb everything but thas what I rmb)

A gang-related shooting happens at a birthday party later in the story. The birthday boy is shot, and the bullet almost hits his brain but he survives.

The book was written by a Black woman author and was a standalone (not part of a series).

If anyone has heard of a book matching this description or has any leads, please let me know! It’s been driving me crazy trying to find it again.
