Telugu Toxic in-laws gave me covid

I had multiple miscarriages and we were trying to have a baby desperately. Every day was precious. Then we bought a new home and a month later my father in law who lived in India was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. We immediately booked international tickets to stay with my father in law and start his time sensitive treatment.

Meanwhile my sister in law and her family decided to go on an international cruise and stay with us with us for 10 days before we left for India to support my father in law.

Sister in law and her family were visibly sick with covid like symptoms when they arrived but they brushed it off as some sea sickness and we trusted them. Few days later we started getting the same symptoms as them and we tested positive for covid. When we asked them to get tested as well they blankly refused and left as pre-planned.

We were violently sick for 2 weeks. Had to postpone the India trip. Father in law treatment was delayed by a month and he died few months later. Our vacation plan had to be renegotiated with managers at work causing significant impact to project planning. I had a miscarriage again.

1 year later I delivered a baby. Meanwhile my in laws just brushed my sister in laws behavior under the carpet. When I told my in laws and sister in law how this has impacted me they just replied that family is supposed to help each other and normalized it.

I am still in shock. Is this expectations normal? Specially for Telugu community?
