Rearpad not working for some games

I have a ps vita 1000 and when I try going through my items or weapons using any of the four corners of the rear pads in Metal Gear Solid 2 they don’t work. However, when I play a game like God of war on the vita the rear pads work, so I’m not sure what the issue is.
