Toxic competition in English cohort

I’m in a real pickle right now and would like some advice. Since unit 3 just ended the English teachers have ranked us and i think they’re generally not supposed to reveal it right? Well, there is one English teacher (thankfully im not in her class) we’ll call her Mrs. James decided to not so discreetly reveal the rank from 1 to 20 to her favourites. She’s been known to single out students in her class and focus more one those that have a “potential.” She told my friend who’s in her class and the rest of the students to go unscored since they’re “dumb,” which is so contradictory since she was literally preaching collaboration and that no student will be left behind in her class?? Anywhoo, after that one of such students approached me randomly and told me that i was rank 1?? Like up to my face. I didnt know if i should be happy or angry since my academic position is personal?? I mean should it not be? Turns out those “favourites” of hers begged her so instead of telling them their individual positions she went out and revealed the whole list!!! And omg ever since then I’ve been getting literal death stares from those kids😣. Our unit 3 exams just made it worse, somehow I managed to get 19/20 and ranked 1 again. And this time Mrs. James read out all of my work the very morning the exams were mailed back from vcaa, without my consent!!! She’s been sharing the work of the to ranked students including me and some others to her favourites so they can beat us. She even told them to befriend the high scoring students to get ideas out of them. 😭😭😭😭

I have absolutely no problem with a teacher wanting to help out extra some students who do score high, but what she is doing is singling out students and unfairly helping them. What’s even crazier is that those faves and i are already in an English extra class for excelling students, and she still goes behind and creates secret meetings for them. For our creative SAC my friend literally saw her giving suggestions mid-SAC which is not allowed mind you, to fix their pieces up. While she ignored the rest of her class?? Like? Even her whole class feels disadvantaged. And for our recent SAC she individually pulled her faves from class for last minute help?? They were gone for 20mins- half an hour. And I overheard one of the girls speak to her friend how Mrs. James was helping her even hinted at the essay prompts!! Like cmon, that HAS to be wrong. The issue is that she’s created a crazy competitive environment between her faves and other top scorers, those students are already not the best of people and now they’re literally onto me. They try to peak at my notes, eavesdrop my conversations, and omg the piercing glaring is taking me OUTT. I definitely feel super pressured and kind of exposed, she has access to all student work even if she‘s not my teacher, so if she decides to steal my work again she very well can! I’ve complained before and she received a warning but she honestly does not give two shits. She goes around telling students that they cannot fire her because she’s never really received any serious consequnces.

I really don’t know what to do. I feel this enormous pressure all the time, because i know if i do slightly less than her faves they will know and i will be ridiculed. I don’t want all this toxicity impacting my performance. Her faves have been getting on my nerves too, they have this inflated sense of ego like they are everything since they get extra help (and lots of praise) from her, plus other people’s original ideas. Of course they would feel invincible. 😤

I kind of went on a big tangent here oops. But seriously, if anyone has any ideas i would really appreciate it! I feel crazy right now but this has to be bizarre and wrong right?
