Painted/finished armor should both be added and common
It has been a common misconception that plate steel was almost always left unfinished. Due to over-restoration from 20th century museums, many thought that most armor was simply left bare and oiled, but that is not accurate. Many of these pieces have been found to have microscopic traces of paint or of a number of finishes (blackening, bluing, gilding, etching, mismatched elements in a set etc.) So, there should be a larger number of visually different armor elements, especially in the higher ranks. Mid tier ranks could have some ornamentation and bluing, but blackening should be seen in all armored ranks in my opinion. I'm not saying every piece of armor should be finished, but I am saying the devs should consider having a lot more armor with finishes/ornamentation, due to their obvious love for historical accuracy.
