I used to make $13k a year in temp work. Now I’m on $80k + in Tech. AMA.

Job

Hey all,

I (M25) just wanted to post this in case it helps even one person.

Back in 2023 I was working 13–15 hour shifts at events; stewarding, parking, whatever I could get. I was on less than $13k a year. I didn’t have a LinkedIn, didn’t know anyone in tech, and definitely didn’t own a suit. My go-to work fit was a black polo, black shorts, and my high-vis. I carried everything in a Zara backpack that got stolen from under a tree in Hyde Park while I was working.

I genuinely had no idea how people my age were getting real jobs with a stable location and a minimum of $34k, especially without connections or a “dream degree.” It genuinely seemed otherworldly to me.

I didn’t know how to break in, but I definitely figured it out. I make $80k + now, working in a Tech role, fully remote. I know it didn’t happen overnight, but within 18 months - I essentially changed my life and trajectory with the steps that I took.

If you’re stuck in retail, hospitality, or just sick of hearing “tailor your CV” with no actual guidance - feel free to AMA or drop me a DM. I’ve even been thinking about building something to help give people direction, but yeah, I’m here to chat and help if you feel lost or want direction.

No pressure, no links, no BS. I’m in the U.K. btw, using $ for the sake of ease and convenience.

If you want to get out but don’t know how - I’ve been there. Happy to talk through your situation.

Thanks
