Someone found this baby and says it's a cardinal. What kind of fledgling is it? Western North Carolina

I've told her he needs to be put back outside so he can learn to fly, but it's driving me nuts because I can't figure out what he is. No lighter feathers on the chest so I don't think a robin and the beak is wrong for a blackbird or crow (though I could be completely wrong).
