I received the best compliment

Laying in bed with my 2 boys and I'm reading a book all about feelings. On the page labeled "Safe" it says underneath it, "what makes you feel safe and not scared at all?" My 7 year old immediately says "you".

Y'all.. I don't know how I didn't burst into tears. My upbringing was.. not great. And it's a conscious effort on my part to not repeat the same. With the way I treat my kids, and the way I talk to them, I try to make sure to do it in a way that always makes them feel safe. Which is hard at times, cause there are times of course I have to be stern, or even times have to yell cause just talking isn't cutting it.

To know I'm succeeding in that, brings me pure joy.
