Seven months by my count
I made a change December 1, 2024. I knew it was overdue. I "cut back" on my drinking.
From that date to now, I had alcohol twice: I decided to enjoy a few beers on New Year's Eve, and I had a beer with dinner one day in February.
Leading up to my decision, I had days where I was tired from work. I thought I would come home from work in fall 2024, and planned to have two beers with dinner and then an early bedtime. I have a physical job, so these were days I came home tired and struggled to keep my eyes open long enough to shove dinner in my mouth.
But once that first drink hit, I realized my brain clicked on with the alcohol and all of a sudden I was awake and ready for several more beers.
It may sound strange, but of all the reasons to stay sober, I want to keep away from the alcohol so I can let my mind rework itself and heal. I struggle with sleep sometimes, but I know I am progressing.
I like this guy better than I liked the drunk guy. He was embarrassing at times.
Have a nice sober weekend, friends.
