No one knows what cultural appropriation actually is anymore

Exactly what the title says: the meaning of cultural appropriation has been completely lost and it’s fucking sad. Y’all see a white woman wearing a yukata and fucking piss yourselves out of anger on behalf of Japanese people when I promise you, they don’t give a shit, and in fact encourage foreigners to engage in their culture. People are allowed to wear clothing or hairstyles or etc that don’t belong to their own culture; as long as they aren’t actively mocking or doing harm to the image of that culture it literally shouldn’t matter. Pretty much the only argument when y’all get mad about that shit is: “well they didn’t get oppressed for wearing that when they were younger, so they shouldn’t be enjoying it now when people who actually belong to that culture suffered” when that is the exact attitude that you make fun of boomers for having when they advocate against free health care or student loan forgiveness because they didn’t have it back then. The definition of cultural appropriation has been so distorted that you see people worrying about being offensive when they’re literally just doing their makeup in a style that’s popular in another country. JUST DO WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT.

You know what’s ACTUALLY cultural appropriation? Companies selling knock-off dalgona, making it completely wrong, after squid game got popular. Companies selling cheap, sorry excuses for Hawaiian leis that are little more than ugly fake plastic flowers tied together on a flimsy string. Companies selling cheap versions of traditional indigenous clothing to be worn as a Halloween costume. But that’s not a conversation y’all are ready to have because this is the kind of appropriation that YOU enjoy and indulge in. Real cultural appropriation is when a beautiful aspect of a culture is DISTORTED and made into a commercial product for the sole purpose of making money, or mocking the culture. 99% of the cases of “cultural appropriation” I see everyone complaining about are NOT that; no, Michael from Texas wearing a sombrero is NOT cultural appropriation.

If you all care so much about your definition of “cultural appropriation,” then how about we outlaw eating food from other cultures. Oh, or how about speaking another language. Or non-Japanese people watching anime, non-Korean people listening to Kpop, non-American people listening to American music. Hell, let’s fucking ban interracial marriage, at that. You accept all of those as being okay, but draw the line at the stupidest shit like clothing or hairstyles? How the fuck does that make any sense?

Then there’s also the issue of people only being mad when white people wear clothing from other cultures and not the other way around. If a non-white person wore a kilt I’m willing to bet my whole liver that no one would cry cultural appropriation. This makes it so the ONLY cultures being shared and appreciated all around the world are cultures stemming from white countries. This is EXACTLY how historically we lost so many cultures and languages, except the only difference is now it’s being perpetuated by people who THINK they’re helping the oppressed, when they’re doing the exact opposite.

Cancel culture on the basis of cultural appropriation has gotten to this point because no one has any critical thinking skills anymore and now how good of a person you are is measured by how many things you get offended by. The world would be a much better place if kids and brainless adults got off social media, and/or if everyone just minded their own fucking business.
