Feeling defeated after interviews
I’m not permanent yet, but I should’ve been by now. I’ve had several term positions, but unfortunately (and this was my fault) I didn’t know I had to still secure a term for the year I was off on maternity leave. I had 3 month old twins when it was time to apply for jobs, and I simply had no idea I even needed to. I thought that maternity leave was a valid enough reason to not have to secure a job for that upcoming year I was off for.
So basically I lost all my term status/seniority or whatever it is.
I’ve now had 2 terms (since I lost my status) and am now coming back from maternity leave again.
I just had 3 interviews and I’m so stressed out. I don’t want to lose status all over again and start over. I’m the sole provider for our family (5 people) because there is zero childcare in our area. We’ve been on the waitlists for almost 4 years now.
The three interviews I had are for jobs I am not certified for. They aren’t my speciality, but all of my previous terms and LTS positions have had this specialty, even though it isn’t my teachable. So I’m very comfortable with these courses and have done them before. I even brought year plans for all subjects in the position because I know what I’m doing.
I’m still waiting for call backs - either hired or not - I haven’t heard anything and it’s stressing me out. I need to get another contract position to keep my status so I can eventually become permanent. I need to provide for my family. Substitute teaching cannot sustain us - it’s like $200 a day minus deductions, and without a contract, we don’t have any benefits like health/dental.
I’m so worried I won’t get hired because those positions aren’t my teachables. My teachable is something that doesn’t often come up, so I’m anxious beyond belief.
