I won my property appraisal protest...now what

Ask El Paso

Hubby and I bought our 1st home 4 years ago (Eastwood area) and our property appraisal was increasing every year. Our realtor told us, when we got our 1st appraisal notice, said not to worry and it wouldn't affect us.

Well 4 years later our mortgage went up $500 and were nearing $2k on our payments. I knwo that's not new to us El Pasoans.

Now protesting that appraisal has been the biggest monkey on my back, and its stressing me out.

Reading through ways to protest and gather info has been overwhelming and at times I gave up. But the thought of paying more taxes motivated me to keep fighting.

Now, we do have the homestead and recently got the veterans exemption (below 70% rating) but the raise in the appraisal just counted out the savings with the veterans exemption.

I gathered estimates, took 100+ pics, uploaded them to the site at the EPCAD building before our appt. The lady for our protest looked at neighboring houses that sold and she said the state of our roof sold her. For the decrease.

And we got $50k reduced!!

Once it goes through the finalization. were good to go. but then what, I was in too much shock to ask, can anyone who have won before, what happens next?

Is there a refund? When does it go into affect? When does the mortgage/escrow payments reduce? I feel dumb for asking but this EP subreddit, helped me get through the process. Thanks in advance. 👍🏽
