Merrell Agility Peak 5 Review

I know there's other reviews out there but, figured more is better for people searching. These come up on pretty great sales fairly regularly driving interest in them.

Me: 50yo male, 6'1" 200#, Sz 14 shoe Pacific NW and Utah are primary running areas.

Other shoes I like: Nike Zegama (OG), Saucony Xodus 10/11 (don't like Ultra), Saucony Endorphin Rift

Had a broken knee that I'm recovering from and just started getting back on the trails in the last month. Typically run 20ish miles per week, but can jump over 40 during the summer.

These piqued my interest due to larger cushioning stack, rock plate (forefoot only), super critical foam, vibram sole, and moderate drop. They have delivered on all that (minus the drop).

They are lightweight even in my huge size. The cushioning is great, especially on the steep downhills I usually run. No real rocker but the steeper drop (more like 10+mm vs the stated 6mm) helps with a strong toe off. Vibram mega grip sole works great with our varied surfaces here. Rock plate provides the protection I want. Long enough in normal size for toe room. Width is good but not roomy.

I've put 50 miles on these the last few weeks on a variety of trails and surfaces and am very happy with them. I wish the drop was closer to the 6mm, but it's not that big a deal. Highly recommend them if you are looking for a cushioned, all day shoe that can eat up rougher terrain.
