Anyone else ever worry they’re more emotionally invested in a friendship than the other person?

advice

I’ve got a close friend who means a lot to me—she’s actually my first real female friend, so the whole experience has felt new and meaningful in a way I haven’t really felt before. We have a really good connection, and I care about her deeply. It’s not romantic—I just genuinely love her as a person. We are super close after being friend for a year too.

Sometimes I wonder if I care more than she does or maybe I’m too into it. She’s actually a lesbian who’s used to having guy friends, and for me, this is kind of a big deal. I guess I’m worried that what feels special and unique to me might be more normal or casual for her.

I deal with some self-doubt sometimes too, so I know this most likely a me problem and not her. She’s affectionate, texts me all the time, we spend time together—it’s not like she’s distant or anything. But still, that doubt creeps in sometimes, making me wonder if I’m more emotionally into the friendship than she is.

Again, she hasn’t given me reason to feel this way. I think I’m some kind of afraid of investing in someone else and getting hurt.
