Parents who believe in "Children First" (as opposed to "Partner First"), what's your logic?

I've always believed in "Partner First" The logic being "when you put your Partner First, you naturally feel filled enough to take care of the kids and are secure. Also the kids see the secure love and feel safe in that.

I don't know or understand "Kids First" but I want to. Help?
