Why are sonic fans so obsessed with “maturity”?

Every time there's a character discourse, I keep seeing maturity being brought up. It's a timeless series, why are u so obsessed with teenagers maturing? It's not even like they're 18, since most of the characters fall between ages 10-16 with a few below and a few above.

Like when was the last time Amy was allowed to act 12 or Sonic/shadow allowed to act 15/16. Everyone and their mom wants them to act older than they are. You could try arguing that SEGA removed their ages but their influence on how how the characters acted from adventure to colors can't be thrown into the trash.

"Oh sonic should be more mature" "I like Amy now that she's mature".....

"Oh rouge was too mean and deceitful"....

I think sonic fans are too sensitive to characters having any form of "negative" or "immature" personality trait but that's a topic for another time. I also think the guy characters get an easier pass to act their ages than the females, but I digress.

Again, the franchise is aiming to be timeless like Mario. I'm pretty the more they keep maturing, the sooner sega would decide to reboot the franchise. Sonic is a lore heavy video game franchise, not a series with an overarching plot.

I think the maturity argument is just dumb tbh. Rant was low-key unnecessary.
