i just cancelled my private lessons (looking for motivation)
Hello! I am currently 16 and have been taking private guitar lessons for about a year now. Before last year, I have never really play an instrument or anything like that. I did marching band and was told that I had great progress, but I decided to stop and just focus on guitar for now.
The reason why I cancelled my private lessons were because they were very expensive (290 a month for 4 45 minutes lessons). I am considering other instructors, but have yet to find one online. I felt like a lot of the time I wanted more structures in my lessons (like being told what to do instead of being asked what do I want to do, iykwim), and I wasn't really given that until I expressed interest in doing performance group. Even if I was to stay and do performance group, I know it wouldn't be the kind of music I am interested in learning and playing as I am more of a RnB, jazz, indie pop person than I am heavy rock or alt rock. I am currently kind of just sad and disappointed in everything, because I genuinely very liked the thrill of performing in front of an audience, playing with other people, being apart of something great. But, I'm not like others where I started before I hit my teenage years. A lot of teenagers I know already have their own bands and gigging every weekend, and I'm just wondering if I will ever get good at my instruments, write my own songs, and perform in front of others. I am considering other places/ other instructors, but have yet to find one. I feel like a big part of me is being shut down lol.
Feel free to give me any advice or your own story to make me feel like my music passion is not ending before it even started.
