Chinese antiques in United States - Father in law claimed this jade Chinese brush holder was from the Qing dynasty before he passed. Can anyone help identify this or is it worth getting it authenticated?

I've submitted it to a couple of auction houses, but would love any info if anyone is familiar with jade artifacts. From what I've read, it is cool to the touch and does not warm up and brown jade does exist. However I'm still skeptical that he was just pulling my leg about it's value... thanks!
