Useless comedy

I was rewatching an older episode (the one where Rick and Morty go inside the battery) and it made me realize that one of the things I miss most about older seasons (6 and earlier, but especially 1-4) is the random, “useless” moments that didn’t really help move the plot along but were just flat out enjoyable. The new episodes are, in a way, TOO cohesive for my liking. Maybe there’s a more complex way of articulating this that I’m missing but that was my initial thought.

For those who are curious, the “useless” scene from that episode I enjoyed was the one where Rick is screaming at Morty to turn into a car and Morty’s freaking out and then Rick finds a taxi and just goes “oh nevermind.”
