My 6 year old grandson is asking a lot of questions

Diagnosed Patient or Survivor Support

My 6‑year‑old grandson has spent a lot of time with me during my cancer treatment over the past two years. He’s seen me go through multiple surgeries and get sick on and off. We’ve traveled to St. Thomas twice, and each time I couldn’t go in the water because I had surgery right before the trip. Now he’s starting to ask questions like:

‘Gigi, are you still sick?’ ‘Gigi, can you go in the water next year?’ ‘Gigi, do all women have boobies?’

I hate him always thinking I’m sick, and I want to answer him honestly—but simply. I still have more surgeries ahead. How can I respond in a way that reassures him, explains enough, and doesn’t overwhelm him?
