Trying to find a book about this boy who lived on some house on a field and listened to a radio station in his room about apollo 8 i believe

I remember reading this book sometime in elementary school but it was definitely above my reading level. I don’t remember any of the characters names or what roles they played in the story. the only clear memory i have is of a boy sitting in the attic of some family members house, writing or sketching in a notebook while his radio plays apollo 8 reports from NASA. im not even sure if it was apollo 8 either im just guessing there. It featured some illustrations but they were colorless and only inked. there was also this black cat that sat in the window of the attic i think. there may have been a big field outside of the house but thats where my memory really stops. i hope its findable i desperately yearn to read this book again😔
