How to help baby unroll
My LO is 4 months old. I started rolling him during tummy time onto his tummy instead of simply placing him in the position since the very first week. He caught on fairly quickly and learnt to roll from back to tummy the day he turned 3 months old.
The problem is that he just cannot roll back. He is able to unroll if his hand is still tucked in the ideal tummy time position (under his chest). But as soon as he rolls, he takes his hands out next to his shoulders and then gets stuck which makes him frustrated and fussy. I have tried needling his hand through and encouraging weight-shifting to show him how to unroll but it requires him to tuck his hand back and he does not like doing that. This leads to constant fussiness and needing someone to be around even during independent play to keep rolling him back.
He is already pivoting to sides on his tummy and is able to come up on his palms during tummy time, so I assume he is getting close to crawling. Is this going to be a problem for future milestones if he learns to crawl before he can unroll? Any suggestions on how I can encourage him without having to intervene every time?
