Jumped Into a Moving Train Like a Pro, Landed in the Ladies Coach Like an Idiot

I was traveling to a different city via Indian Railways on an unreserved ticket. The platform was congested, and people were already competing to board the train before it even stopped. There was no way I was getting a seat if I just stood there waiting.

Since I was wearing tactical combat boots, my reckless ass decided to run alongside the moving train, grab the handle, and once I gained enough momentum, I jumped in.

Only after getting inside did I realize… something was off. The whole compartment was full of women, and plenty of seats were still empty (which is rare in a general coach). Everyone was staring at me, and to be fair, I probably looked out of place.. a 6'3 dude in a black hoodie.. I asked one of them if it was a women’s coach, and she nodded. Without thinking twice, I jumped right back out of the moving train.

For the record, I have zero issues with women-only compartments. They’re absolutely necessary and help prevent harassment and assault. It's an excellent initiative.

But come on, this kind of confusion could easily be avoided if the government did something as basic as painting the damn coach a different color, or writing “LADIES ONLY” in big, bold letters on the side. How the hell am I supposed to spot some tiny-ass sticker while running alongside a moving train in a crowd of people? It’s not about the rule, it’s about how stupidly they implement it. This is what happens when a multi-billion-dollar railway system still can’t figure out how to communicate the most basic shit to passengers.

I’m not denying that I was reckless and impulsive. I take full accountability for that. But what do you expect from a 21-year-old when the system, run by your so-called mature folks, is this damn careless and incompetent? If they can collect taxes, they should do their damn jobs properly.

This is a country with 1.4 billion people. The Indian Railways earned ₹2.4 lakh crore ($29 billion USD) in revenue in FY2023-24. You’re telling me they can’t afford to build more trains, or at least design the existing ones better?

You can hate me all you want, but that doesn’t change the fact that the root cause is systemic failure. Not youthful recklessness, not entitlement, just a complete lack of planning, clarity, and accountability at the top.
