AITA for saying this to my friends from middle school

So for context, I used to be really good friends with people I knew from middle school until high school hit. Since we attended different schools, we slowly drifted off on our own and did our own things afterwards with occasional calls on discord here and there to catch up and play games. But very recently a few days ago someone blew up on an old instagram we haven’t used since like 2022 on what I said around a year ago in 2024. (Before i explain further else ima add the full crashout text msg they sent out)

“I heard word” “A year ago” “You said "i dont really talk to the people from [insert middle school] because they never grew out of their middle school humor"

“I HAVENT TALKED TO YOU SINCE MIDDLE SCHOOL HOW WOULD YOU KNOW MY HUMOR”

“Genuinely when have you heard our humor since middle school i am perplexed where you thought to say this”

“I have so many thoughts but I don't wanna make it more complicated, but i swear i cannot be slandered and criticized based on nothing literally why was that said”

(Back to me now explaining) So there were also a few people agreeing with them on this(keep in mind we’re in college now), but I didn’t exactly say what they mentioned at the beginning. What I clearly remember saying was that I haven’t talked to them in a while but they seem like they are in their middle school phase. It was smth I thought when i asked about how I thought about them, and I didn’t know this would hurt them that much. I don’t think me explaining to them about what I really said since they chose to publicly announce all of this to a groupchat we haven’t used since 3 years ago. This is probably pretty mild in comparison to all the other posts on this subreddit, but it’s been kinda weighing on me since it was smth I said. So am I the asshole for ignoring all of this and saying that a year ago?
