I sat in on a small founder gathering in Palo Alto last week. Nothing big, just a circle of early-stage builders and a couple of VCs giving feedback.

One founder stood up to present their MVP.

They looked nervous. Before they even started, they said quietly,

>

Their product was raw. No fancy UI. A little buggy. But real.

As they spoke, they told the story behind it, how it came from a personal struggle. Why do they care about solving this problem? Why did they almost not come?

The room listened, not to judge, but to understand.

When they finished, no one asked about scale, metrics, or market size.

Instead, the panel, one from **Nexus**, another ex-**Sequoia**, asked,

>

And someone in the back said,

>

That moment stuck with me.

The founder walked away realizing their MVP *was* lovable because it was honest, and it was theirs.

It reminded me that lovable starts small. And messy. And real.

If you’re in that early phase, scared your idea isn’t shiny enough, know that someone out there might already love what you’re building.

I spoke to a founder who’s planning to pitch at a small gathering in Palo Alto next week.

It’s a quiet, low-key event — just early-stage builders sharing what they’ve got, and a couple of VCs offering feedback. Nothing flashy.

This founder told me,

>

Then they paused and said,

>

They went on to tell me the story behind the product — how it came from something deeply personal. Why they’ve spent nights second-guessing whether to keep building. Why they almost didn’t sign up to pitch at all.

I asked what they were hoping to get from the session.

They said,

>

And that hit.

Because that’s the real fear, right? Not whether the product is scalable. But whether it *means something*.

Next week, they’ll be standing in front of a small group — including folks from Nexus and ex-Sequoia — who won’t ask about CAC or TAM first.

They’ll ask,

>

And someone, hopefully, will remind them:

>

That moment hasn’t happened yet. But I hope it does — for them, and for everyone else in the room, building something fragile and real.

“I don’t even know if it’s lovable.” A founder whispered that before pitching.
