Fleas in carpet!! How do I get rid of them?!

I've been struggling to get rid of fleas in my carpet for about three weeks now, and I don't even have pets inside! I'm positive that the stray cats outside my house had fleas and one happened to hitch a ride on me inside (couldn't resist petting the cats). But, they're only eating me up, and not my other family members. I've tried salt and baking soda in my carpet, as well as through vacuuming.
