Soundtrack Changed?!
I recently re-downloaded the Stellaris Original Soundtrack from Steam on my Steam Deck and noticed something deeply upsetting: the song “Towards Utopia” is no longer the same as I remember it from before.
The original version had a beautiful, emotional middle section that hit hard and stuck with me foryears. This new version? It's flat, different, and honestly a downgrade.
At first I thought I was losing it -- but then Shazam just so happened to identify the next song as “Infinite Being”, and I instantly recognized that as the original “Towards Utopia” I remembered.
That’s when I realized: the soundtrack has been silently altered.
I’ve noticed track duration mismatches, renamed songs, and inconsistencies across the board. The current version is a mess. And the longer I investigate, the worse it got. There’s no changelog, no update notice, no option to revert. And this isn’t just a minor mistake -- it feels like it was changed quietly, possibly out of malice or carelessness.
I submitted a ticket to Paradox asking:
Has the soundtrack been altered or replaced since 2022?
Why were these changes made without notifying users?
Why do some songs no longer match their original runtime or title?
Can we please have access to the original versions we purchased?
I’m not looking for a refund. I just want what I paid for -- the music I connected with. If anyone else noticed this, please speak up. We deserve to know what happened.
I want to raise awareness.
