Outlet Dead After Adapter Pop Socket Shows 0V With Multimeter What should I do?
Hi everyone,
I recently had an issue with a wall socket in my apartment in Zurich, Switzerland. I plugged in a PC adapter that sparked or popped slightly when I connected it. Immediately after that, the outlet stopped working.
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
Circuit breaker didn’t trip – I checked the panel and everything looks normal.
Other outlets in the room still work – so it seems isolated to this one.
I disassembled the faceplate carefully and inspected the wiring – no burn marks or loose connections visible.
Used a multimeter (ANENG DM850) set to ACV, tested between live and neutral – shows 0V.
Tried testing live to ground – also 0V.
At this point, I’m suspecting either:
A wire came loose deeper in the wall behind the box?
Something failed upstream in the daisy chain?
My main questions:
-
Is there anything else I can check safely before calling an electrician?
-
Could this be caused by an internal fuse or hidden tripped safety mechanism I might have missed?
Thanks in advance for any advice! I just want to make sure I’ve ruled out the basics before bringing in a pro.
