Struggling with Ideas for a Dystopian Book That I Am Writing

Any Feedback

Hello everyone. I'm currently writing a dystopian science fiction novel and have some ideas, but I'm having trouble choosing which one to pursue and develop further. I would be grateful if you could let me know which premise is the most appealing to you, and any advice or suggestions you may have.

Idea A: An alternative reality in which the Y2K bug actually caused worldwide breakdown—overnight, computer systems failed, leaving society in disarray. Out of the ruins, a megacorporation (think Apple on steroids) rises with technology that is data-free, hardware-free, and digital-media-free. By the late 2020s, this corporation controls all aspects of life, shaping culture, technology, and personal liberties. The book is intended as a satirical description of our current decade's technology obsession and corporate influence.

Idea B: In an alternate universe where corporations took over the government in the 1980s, society is stuck in a retro-futuristic nightmare of the 1970s. The tale, set in 2025, delves into a culture stuck in the past, where advancement has ground to a halt and the optimistic, space-age hopes of the 70s have resulted in a sleek yet empty reality. The aesthetic is defined by bold, striking colors, abstract minimalism, and clean designs reminiscent of classic 70s science fiction, creating a unique and visually appealing space. Behind the bright and colorful world lies a society firmly in the tight control of corporate interests, where originality is repressed and cultural stagnation is the norm. The novel is a subtle satire of both the utopian visions of the era and the modern-day consequences of unchecked corporate power.

Idea C: Governments disintegrated by the 2030s and were replaced by powerful corporations, each of which created its own faction in sections of the world. The corporate factions fight each other constantly—sometimes in open war, sometimes in sabotage, economic warfare, and technological rivalry—since each is trying to gain the advantage. Conditions in everyday life are shaped by shifting loyalties, branded identities, and constant competition for dominance among the global corporate giants.

Concept D: In a parallel universe, governments have been replaced by fast food chains and now rule the world. The world has been divided into territories controlled by mega-chains with their own brand name laws, culture, and odd rules. Rivalries run by competing corporations govern all aspects of daily life, from propaganda and surveillance to food intake and lifestyle. Mascots become political idols, menus are laws, and consumer choice is an illusion created by relentless advertising. The story is presented as a sci-fi black comedy and satire, taking the excesses of corporate culture and consumerism to their dystopian extremes.
