Can I put Gardener on Farm with the gold leaf?

Hi,

few days ago had a fight with my SO when I tried to put Gardener for free thanks to Farm & golden leaf and my SO objected that Newleaf cards can be used only by other Newleaf cards which doesn't make sense but I didn't wanna fight her so I agreed and decided to resolve this later on.

What does Everdell Supreme Court say about this?
