Sad reality of backward mindset in India

Just got off from a call with my college friend (22F), she's from haryana. She had been hiding a very heavy secret with herself : her parents never wanted a second child, especially not a girl and they made her feel unwanted all her life. She quit her job recently due to toxicity and wanted my advice on whether it was right or not. Eventually mentioned how her parents made her feel pathetic over not continuing work and how she's a 'failure' for quitting her first job.

In fact, they fought frequently when she was a kid and her mom often used to say "your existence is the root of our issues" and how they should've aborted her. She recently found her mother's diary where aunty wrote how the reason why they never wanted her was that shes a girl and how her father said the day of her birth was one of the worst days of her life.

I JUST SAT THERE AND THOUGHT WTF, SUCH THINKING IN 2025? They're EDUCATED, RICH and WELL TO DO people btw. I don't even know how to console her, she cried her heart out today.

Gonna go to her place tomorrow and stay with her for a day, till shes stable
