Please help me find this old anime.

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to track down an anime I watched years ago, possibly from the late 90s or early 2000s. It left a strong impression but I can’t remember the title. Here’s what I recall:

The story centers on an someone who is chased by a huge werewolf-like beast. There is a dramatic train chase scene where the train crosses a big bridge that heads into a city. The setting is an industrial or steampunk-style canyon village, which the characters access by mechanical lifts or stairs. There’s a blood sacrifice ritual involving a large golden cage with a patterned floor designed to collect blood. After the sacrifice, a magical gem is created. The characters have access to a library of magical books or spellbooks, and a spell is used once in the story. At some point, they enter a cave and it was very colourful. The overall tone is more adventurous, though it has some serious and tragic moments. If anyone recognizes this anime or can point me in the right direction, I’d be very grateful! Thanks in advance!
