If you fire a round as soon as you die, does your shell still hit its target?

This is a genuine question for me because oddly enough, it happens a bunch. I aint tryna yap so ill get straight to the point. Fired an APCBC round at the turret ring of an AMX-13, and almost immediately after firing my round, the AMX killed me. Now that's fine, however on the kill cam, bro wasn't even damaged at all. He was riding around moving his turret at normal speed after he killed me. On the bottom left, it had all of the red icons for dead driver, etc so what did that round do? Thanks for any helpful insight, ive been wondering about scenarios like this times 100.
