Religion in the wizard world

Discussion

Well, I always wondered why wizards celebrate Christmas, but this could also be just a an adaptation off muggle traditions independently from its origins. However, the question of religion in the wizarding world can be explored deeper.

most supranatural phenomenons / miracles and events from known current or even antique religions could be rationally explained within the parameters of the wizarding world: Jesus turning water into wine or healing people, Mohammed’s night travel to Jerusalem or even Zeus turning into a Bull. The whole idea e.g. of Greek gods being just a bunch of wizards having drama would be plausible. That would not mean, that it would proof that those stories would be true or that wizards would know for sure that Jesus was just a wizard. But that’s not important.

The point is, that none of the muggle religions would provide wizards with any mystical or supranatural believe system. This could lead to the assumption that all wizards would be atheists, but this would also not be plausible. Because beyond the concrete stories, religion always has the function to ask the fundamental question of why we exist and what the purpose of our existence is. So a wizard would have a logical explanation for things that muggles see as miracles, but this would not provide an answer why he/she exists in the universe.

Therefore, there would be for sure some kind of religious believe system in the wizarding world that has nothing to do with any off the „Muggel religions“
