How do you do anything on here?

I feel like you can’t do anything on this app without being banned or muted. I literally got banned from /NewToReddit and muted so I can’t even message the mods. All I did was ask if people make friends on this app like they do on Twitter and Insta. I now realize the answer is no, but why is everyone so strict on here? How do you go about doing anything if you can’t even join discussions that you’re actually interested in?
