Advance Parole Experience
Quick backstory: Canadian citizen, came to US as a visitor in 2023 and married my US citizen husband shortly after. Applied for marriage based AOS April 2025. Received EAD/AP combo card end of May 2025. Booked a trip to Canada to see my family. Honestly, Reddit almost scared me out of it with all the fear mongering. I spoke with my lawyer, and did my own research and decided to go. We came back to the US via Buffalo land border, and the experience was better than expected. We pulled up to the booth, (myself, my US citizen husband and my Canadian dad) and the officer looked at our passports, then told us I’d have to go into the building to be paroled into the country which I expected. We sat for about an hour before they called my name and asked me how long I was in Canada, what I was doing there, when I came to the US, where I live in the US, and how I’m adjusting my status (Marriage). I gave my fingerprints and had a picture taken and we were good to go. Overall, the officers were kind, professional, and we had no issues. Also, I passed through La Guardia airport, JFK, Washington DC, and not once did I see any ICE officers or extra passport checks like I’ve seen people worried about on here. I just thought I’d make a post sharing a positive experience. I’d say use your advance parole if you have it- that’s what it’s for. Obviously talk to your lawyer about your unique case but I wouldn’t be discouraged by the fear narrative that’s happening right now.
