Swollen leg
Species: Dog Age: 5 years Sex/Neuter status: spayed Breed: GSD Body weight: ~90lbs History: none Clinical signs: swelling/limping Duration: swelling less than 1 day, limping 2 days Your general location: San Diego
I was playing ball with my GSD the other night as we do almost every night. She ran to grab the ball but then on her way back she started limping, left foot in the air and even dropped her ball. I brought her inside and examined her foot to make sure she didn’t cut her paw pad or In between her toes or if anything was stuck. There wasn’t anything. I did some light range of motion exercises and applied some pressure to her whole leg/foot and no signs of any distress or discomfort. The next morning she was still limping. She has a prescription of gabapentin for anxiety so I gave her a dosage to see if it helped, it did some she was limping less. Now today she is back to limping and within the past hour or so I’ve noticed her leg, right above the carpal pad, is swollen on her left leg. I will continue to give the gabapentin and ice it, is this something that warrants an emergency vet appointment or ok to wait until her vet opens?
