Reddit Helped My Son Hear Peace on July 4th. Now We Need a Place to Sleep.

Hi everyone,

I’m David, a dad doing my best to take care of my 9 year old son, Tyr. He’s nonverbal and autistic. He's also sweet, sensitive, and overwhelmed by the world sometimes.

Last month we fled a bad situation and made it into a shelter. It was a lifesaver… until Tyr’s sensory meltdowns became too much for them. Since July 4th he has kicked a hole in a wall during a panic, ran into the hallway naked last night, and threw a ball in distress that accidentally hit someone. They’ve asked us to leave.

We’ve been approved for transitional housing, but it won’t be ready for another month and my unemployment hasn't kicked in yet nor have any government assitance. Until then, we’re stuck. We have no family, no safe place to go, and no shelters that can meet Tyr’s needs. Residential care isn’t an option without giving up my rights, and I’m one of the only people who can communicate with him.

I’m trying to raise money to cover a month in a hotel and supplies that help Tyr feel calm and safe. Even small donations help or just sharing the post, or sending good thoughts.

Reddit helped us get him PNC headphones for the 4th of July, which made a huge difference. Thank you for that. 💙

If you can't donate, prayers and well wishes are more than enough.

Thank you for reading.
