How do I dispose of bleach mixed with lemonade
Did a careless thing
I had lemonade +fruit slices in one of those glass drinks dispensers and left it in the fridge too long. It was growing mold so I poured in some bleach to try and kill it + any bacteria before having to dump out and clean the container. I sealed the container right after pouring in the bleach.
The liquid immediately changed color (from clear pink to a cloudy yellowish color) and the glass got warm. That reads like a potentially dangerous chemical reaction to me. I knew not to mix bleach and vinegar or ammonia, but didn't think about lemonade being an acid.
So I was wondering two things:
- Is this producing chlorine gas like I'm thinking?
- Is this dangerous to handle/dispose of now?
It's currently shut in the bathroom with a window open (still sealed ish). All I can find online is that the liquid may be corrosive but not info on safe disposal.
