hair styling? wigs?

i have short hair, and as much as i would love to grow it out, i dont think i can. my hair just kind of clumps in the back and curls forwards in the front before it gets long at all. i am curious what you all do with your hair, and especially if anyone has the same problem i do. is a wig just the way to go?
