Oculus Quest controller SOS blinking light FIX
Hey people of the internet,
This post is mainly for people who get the error of one of the controllers starting to blink SOS and does not connect any more.
The title is search engine optimized (I hope) because I think, that this problem will be most likely googled. That's what I did anyway.
Every "known" solution. Is absolutely garbage. The Oculus Support website does not offer any help, and other Reddit posts were clueless as well.
Those NOT WORKING approaches where:
Changing the Battery (Duh)
Reset the Headset
Re-couple the Controller
Clean the battery compartment.
I finally found the issue. After I was as far as throwing it in the rubbish, I went ahead and opened the controller up. It's a medium difficulty fix, but it's doable for everyone who's a bit patient.
YOU NEED:
1x T5 Screw driver
1X T4 Screw driver
1x Isopropanol
That's it.
To open the controller follow the instructions from ifixit (link)
You just have to do it until you seperate the upperpart from the handle.
just after you removed the connecting cable, you clean both ports, with the cleaning alcohol.
Then you put the whole thing back together.
There. You did it.
AND META. HOW THE F# IS ONE USED CONTROLLER €80 ON AMAZON. That makes literally no sense.
Sell them separately. I almost bought another headset (used) to get one new controller. That's an awful business model. There is no way I would have bought a new one because of this.
And maybe, just maybe, don't let the controller blink SOS ominously without a public error code table. Not even your technicians know what that code means.
Thanks for reading my Ted talk.
